About Natalie
I don't plan paintings. I arrive at the studio, open the paint, and begin.
I started painting at eight, after my mother brought home an old oil set she'd found at the market. I didn't know then that it would define my life.
Years of painting in the living room, then a small studio, and then — this studio. The studio where I spend every day, looking for the next painting.
What interests me is not to depict reality. I look for the feelings that exist between things — the stillness after rain, the blue inside a storm, the light that arrives before you realise it's coming.
The studio is where everything happens. That's where the paint smells strongest, and where I feel most myself.
Working on a new series that doesn't yet have a name. Blue I didn't know was possible.
